In the summer of 2017, the century-old poplars on the shore of Chinteni Lake were cut down, raising concerns about the legality of this action. A local resident reported the Environmental Guard and the Cluj Forestry Guard, claiming the cutting was done illegally and damaged the natural landscape. 2010.07.15 - After repeatedly losing cases in local and national courts, Cluj resident Inocențiu Poruțiu decided to take Chinteni Town Hall to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg. Poruțiu claims ownership of a former mill, 16 hectares of land and half of Chinteni Lake, valued at over 8 million euros. Even though he has not succeeded in any court so far, he hopes to obtain justice at the European level, claiming he has documents attesting to his grandfather's property rights.
